Drawings!

Here are the drawings i made!

Compared to the other vinyl plotter assignment last semester this one is a - literal - scaled down version. I would've liked to have used the big vinyl plotter to do larger scale drawings but due to time and limiting factors this is what I was able to come up with. I also made a 2d drawing in rhino/grasshopper of a parametric octopus which was a lot of fun! I want to draw that with the plotter soon so that will happen eventually haha

I tried a couple of new objects in grasshopper, mainly the boolean difference tool which was really cool because soon I could create objects and then use them like a cookie cutter to make interesting negative space drawings.

The paper was much easier to work than the vinyl, however, in experimenting with the drawing tool I had some difficulty getting pends to work for me:

It was hardly visible so I grabbed a nice flexible permanent marker which responded way better to the process (I used in in all my drawings up above)

Randomized array pattern

She is beauty, she is grace, she is miss united states

I was a little overwhelmed to start this project so I started off closely following an example bryan showed us in class, but then quickly gained the confidence and knowledge to play with the different commands at my own leisure. Below are some pattern variations I tested out once I got the polygon,

I kinda like the one above because it looks like a bunch of sideways teeth haha

I explained my processes on the yellow panel stickies in the program below.

I thought at this point I was done, however I reread what we needed and I didn't put in a transformation of some kind and I don't know why I just can't get one to fit. I think it is because my brain is fried. I cannot figure out how to specifically rotate the triangles randomly.

Bryan just came in and helped me figure out that I just needed an axis or rotation and hooked it all together! Problem solved!! Woo!

My First Definition

The following is a photo-montage of my tutorial escapades!

Tutorial 1! Got off to a good start with a really embarrassing/silly mistake haha. I realized that you cannot apply an integer to the A input of a line segment in Grasshopper because there isn't enough information. HOWEVER I managed to fix it

Tutorial 2 went way smoother than tutorial 1, didn't screw up at all!

During tutorial 3, I started being more creative with the design of the lines and quickly realized the limits of the Pull point function with closed curves. I tried to make eggs and an eye but the geometry wouldn't allow the function to complete correctly, nevertheless it was a fun little experiment.

Started playing with silhouettes of faces because I knew that it would work better with the command

Tutorial 4 was similar to the third in regards to playing around with the limits of certain functions, this time with the arc tool.

At this point I was familiar enough with the software to start playing around even more. I played around with the bend deform tool that we learned in class and made myself a happy snail head. Overall a 10/10 experience with the software, pretty excited to see what else this baby can do.
